Deist symbol key chain
About the design
Deism is the belief that there is a God, and that he created the universe. However, the God of the Deists is just there in the background, not taking part in the universe and allowing everything that it created to take care of itself through natural laws. The superstitions held by other religions are rejected, and Deists believe in ethical conduct.
What is the symbol?
This symbol is known as The Deist Flame. Deism played a large part in the founding of the United States and in the U.S. Declaration of Independence. This design is favored by many Deists; it is a modified version of the "D" in "Declaration."
About the key chains
Each one is hand made, a block of polymer clay approximately 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 3/8" (3.81 x 3.81 x 0.9525 cm) - this will vary slightly with each one. It is currently available with a snake keychain, a split ring keyring version will be available once I find a chain I approve of.
I make these key chains by hand. I form a ring from heavy guage wire and snake it inside of some thick layers of polymer clay that I've mixed to look like stone. After I've baked the clay, I sand it to smooth things out a bit and round off the edges. I then apply the design and cover the block with matte medium gel. This helps eliminate any halo effects and gives it a nice flat finish. After applying a few layers of the matte medium gel, I make a dome of epoxy resin over the front of the block and allow it to cure for 48 hours or so. Once the resin has cured, I apply a coat or two of polymer clay safe UV blocking protective sealant, this gives it a nice feel and helps prevent it from getting dirty in your pockets (and easy to clean if something dirty does get on it). Finally, I attach the key chain to the ring that I placed in the block prior to baking it.
